120 வருடம் பழமைவாய்ந்த வரலாற்றைக் கொண்ட மஹரா ஜும்மா பள்ளிவாசல் ஒரு வருந்தத்தக்க நிலையில் காணப்படுவதாகவும், மீள திறக்க உதவுமாறும் பிரதியமைச்சர் முனீர் முளாபருக்கு பள்ளிவாயலின் நிருவாகத்தின் கடிதமொன்றை எழுதியுள்ளனர்.
அக்கடிதத்தில் மேலும் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளாவது,
1903 ஆம் ஆண்டு, மஹரா சிறைச்சாலைகளில் சேவையாற்றிய மலாய் பாதுகாவலர்களினால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டு, வழங்கப்பட்ட மஹரா ஜும்மா பள்ளிவாசல், கடந்த 6 ஆண்டுகளாக மூடப்பட்டு உள்ளது. 2019 ஏப்ரல் மாதம் இடம்பெற்ற ஈஸ்டர் தாக்குதலுக்குப் பின்னர், எந்தவொரு நியாயமுள்ள காரணமும் இல்லாமல், மஹரா சிறைச்சாலை நிர்வாகத்தினால் இப்பள்ளிவாசல் மூடப்பட்டது.
இது நாட்டின் அரசியலமைப்பினால் உறுதி செய்யப்பட்ட அடிப்படை மத உரிமைகளை மீறுகிறது. ராகமா மற்றும் அதனைச் சுற்றியுள்ள முஸ்லிம் மக்கள் இன்று வரை தங்கள் வழிபாட்டு உரிமைகளை இழந்திருக்கின்றனர்.
மஹரா ஜும்மா பள்ளிவாசல் 02.03.1967 ஆம் திகதி இலங்கை வக்ஃப் சபையினால் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டதுடன், அந்தக் காலத்திய சிறைச்சாலைகள் ஆணையாளர் அனுமதியுடன் செயற்பட்டது. பல ஆண்டுகள் சென்றுவிட்ட நிலையில், மலாய் சமூகத்தினரின் எண்ணிக்கையிலான குறைவால், பள்ளிவாசலை நடத்துவதற்காக அருகிலுள்ள முஸ்லிம் சமூகம் ஈடுபட்டு வந்துள்ளது.
இப் பள்ளிவாசல் மீட்பிற்காக கடந்த 2019 ஏப்ரல் மாதம் தொடக்கம் அரசாங்கங்களிடம் தொடர்ந்து மனுக்கள் அனுப்பப்பட்டாலும், இதுவரை எவ்வித தீர்வும் கிடைக்கவில்லை.நாங்க ஜனாதிபதி, பிரதமர், அமைச்சர்கள், பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்கள், வக்ஃப் சபை, முஸ்லிம் கலாசார மற்றும் மத விவகார திணைக்களம் உள்ளிட்ட அனைத்தும் தொடர்புடைய அதிகாரிகளை சந்தித்து, நமது கோரிக்கையை எடுத்துரைத்துள்ளோம்.
சமீபத்தில், பாராளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் ஹிஸ்புல்லா அவர்கள், பாராளுமன்றத்தில் நமது பள்ளிவாசல் குறித்த பிரச்சனையை உரையாற்றியுள்ளாரென்பதும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
இப்பள்ளிவாசலை மீளத் திறக்க, தற்போது பதவி வகிக்கும் தேசிய மக்கள் சக்தியின் அரசாங்கம் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கும் என நாங்கள் மிகுந்த நம்பிக்கையுடன் எதிர்பார்க்கிறோம். என பள்ளிவாயலின் நம்பிக்கையாளர் சபை உறுப்பினர்களும் மலாய் சமூகத்தின் முக்கியஸ்தர்களுமான டாக்டர் . அனுவர்உலுமுத்தீன் மற்றும் ஹபீல் எஸ் லக்சானா ஆகியோர் பிரதியமைச்சருக்கு இக்கடிதத்தை அனுப்பியுள்ளனர்.

Dear Hon. Minister,.
77 Independence Day celebrated on February 4, 2025. we reflect on the sacrifices made by our forefathers to secure the freedom we enjoy today. Their struggle was not just for independence from colonial rule but for a nation that upholds democracy,unity, and prosperity for all its people.
As we move forward, we must recognize that true independence is not just about sovereignty but also about ensuring justice, equality, and economic stability for every citizen. Our country has faced many challenges specifically Muslims, but our resilience as a people has always been our greatest strength and coexist in harmony, where opportunities are available for all. We believe that through unity and determination, we can overcome divisions and build a nation that fulfills the aspirations of all Sri Lankans.
On this Independence Day, let us renew our commitment to peace, reconciliation, and progress. Let us work together to create a brighter future for our children and generations to come.
May Sri Lanka be blessed with unity, prosperity, and lasting peace.
The board of Trustees of the Mahara Jumma Mosque the plight of a 120 years old mosque that has been denied for the Muslims of Ragama, Mahara areas since 2019 of lost Malay Mosque that was gifted to the Mahara Malay guards in 1903 as an incentives for their recruitment
to the prisons service.
We have appealed to successive governments since April 2019 to restore this Mosque but without success.
We appeal to you to help us in restoring our Mosque by commenting to the concerned authorities with a copy to us which will help in our endeavor.
SIX YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE THE APRIL EASTER BOMB ATTACK OF 2019 AND THE ARBITRARY CLOSURE OF THE MAHARA JUMMA MOSQUE BY THE MAHARA PRISON AUTHORITIE
The Mahara Jumma Mosque still remains closed. Thousands of Muslims in Ragama and it’s suburbs are still deprived of their fundamental right of worship as established in the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
You as Muslim Ulama and you have coming from Gampaha we are interested to iron out this issue of reopening the Mosque.
This Mosque was started on a land presented by the British in 1903 to the MALAY GUARDS of Mahara Prisons for a Mosque and Burial ground. (Refer. Ceylon Administrative Report of 1902/1903 under Prison Department)
This Mosque was registered with the Wakf Board of Sri Lanka on 02/93/1967 as MAHARA MOSQUE with due permission of the then Commissioner of Prisons. By the passing of years the Malays in the Mahara Prison decreased by deaths, transfers and not sufficiently filled by the Prison Department and had to be run by the neighbouring Malay relatives living outside the Prison area. Therefore this Mosque is over 120 years old
The Board of Trustees of the Mahara Jumma Mosque have made every possible avenue by writing to the Hon. President, the Hon. Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and meeting Members of Parliament including the Government and Opposition, Director of Muslim Religious & Cultural Affairs and members of the Wakf Board and other important officials and intelegance officers of successive Governments.
Recently Hon. Hizbullah Member of Parliament spoke to me and made a speech in Parliament about our Mosque.
The whole country and the Islamic world knows of this injustice done to us. We are desperately and anxiously waiting for the new Government of the NPP (National People’s Power) to take action.
